I am loving your work! The more I see the more I love!
I so love this, Sue. It leaves me with the most supreme feeling of peacefulness and calm.. and well-being. Terrific hues… wonderful brush work. Wow
@Sue…….It would be the most wonderful thing to visit where you are……..I am from Wisconsin originally and we had a farm up in Door County, the Peninsula of Wisconsin. Although it is not an Ocean, the large lake feels vast and open like it does on the ocean. I have always wanted to capture that beauty in painting….but I need to study longer…..you inspire me so much with your work Sue. It would be such a pleasure to see where you get your inspiration. Don’t be surprised if I show up…….WOW….that would be such a lovely trip……
CONGRATULATION on your SOLO-EXHIBITION dear Sue. Since a long time I’m admiring your art that gives me the fresh air of the sea and the sensation that mountains are not just stone but alive. You are a wonderful artist !
My first love amongst your work is the one that I first saw in this exhibition and on RB. I put it in one of my SOMBAs and it is a all time favourite for me. Ruth
Frannie they are fantastic, Sue seems to give us different viewpoints within her paintings in “Pilot Me B…” all the verticals seem to frame something, the harbour of boats at the top right or the stern of Pilot Me B. In Gothic Staithes my eye keeps going to the flat area at the base of the house where there are verticals and waves in compositions that are echoed in the window frames.
These big images are great all the underpainting is showing through the layers and the impasto paint quality is fully visible.
I really love your work Sue!! Your pieces seem to have it all compositionally but they have so much more – mood and atmosphere that is uniquely identifiable as your work! I don’t have access to a pc to add favorites as I am on vacation, but I wanted to wish you a big congratulations!!!! I so admire your work!!
Also love your work Sue and congrats on this feature. You have captured the movement or energy of water so brilliantly. And in turn the boats not only look like they are floating but responding to the surrounding water/energy. Really great work.
Sue I loved looking thru your gallery of paintings. After creating digital artwork for many years I have an itch to learn traditional painting and you are an inspiration.! Congrats on Solo gallery!!
Brilliant work Sue congratulations on your Solo Exhibition. Your work is rich in paint quality, colour, surface, and brushstroke are truly inspirational. I particularly like the Staithes and Flamborough paintings.
The composition and contrasts of light and dark interact within the picture plane, all the compositional elements break down into smaller intimate little paintings, and then there is the quality of the surface and the underlying personality of the piece.
I’ve just come back to your exhibition Sue – and discovered that one of the great things about these Gallery Hops is how you can come across art you might not otherwise find. I love the explosive power in some of your paintings – ‘Every Cloud’ and ‘Staithes Breakwater’ and ‘Storm Approaching’ – and the contrast with the subtle, soft serenity of others – such as ‘Patterns of Whitby’ and ‘Rose of England’ and ‘Summer Sandsend’. You have a fabulous range and beautiful, expressive detail. The powerful is ultra powerful too. Love it…
Congratulations on this FANTASTIC Solo Exhibition Sue! Ever since I discovered your work on RedBubble I have been a huge admirer of your talent. Several artists have painted the beautiful town of Staithes, and you were the first one who drew it to my attention. If I ever get to England again I will want to visit this quaint, unspoilt town, all because of you. You paint it so beautifully.
Congratulations on a very fine Solo Exhibition, Sue! I’m hard pressed to find a favorite. I love the drama and texture in each one.
But this one really drew me in. I love its charm and how it takes you to the seaside! You can almost smell the sea in the air!
Hi Sue, it’s early morning again in California. I enjoyed your paintings so much yesterday that I dreamed about them last night. I am fascinated by them due mostly to the differences in the place you live as compared to my familiar California Coast. I painted mainly harbors and boats for many years …not so much anymore, but I still live near them and adore them. What strikes me most are the contrasts between the places. The cobles are fascinating as they are so different from the fishing boats I see.
Your palette is cool compared to the warm colors of the places I live. I love the starkness in your breakwaters and landscapes. Many of your paintings, like “Every Cloud,” employ wonderful Turner- like skies. I think Anna already commented on that. They are wonderful. That texture with sand may ruin brushes, but it really adds to the flavor of your paintings.
I’ve got a theory!! Can I bore you with it!!!
I think there is a critical point.. a moment of magic.. where a landscape painting can exist. This perfect balance is found rarely but I think you have a painting here that does it.
My definition of this point of brilliance is where a painting falls equally between the graphic ( the flat marks) and the reality (the subject matter).
I can enjoy the subject you have painted for you capture the scene beautifully but I can also enjoy the marks, the composition, the space.. the abstract qualities. It sits on that perfect point because it brilliantly contains both extremes: reality and alchemy!!
Congratulations Sue on a much deserved solo show!! Brilliant work! Thank you to you and the wonderful organisers of the solo group!!
